Rules for Lassen
National Forest hikes
- dogs welcome
- horses welcome
- bicycles not allowed in
Caribou Wilderness or on the Pacific Crest Trail.
Maybe allowed on other trails*. Welcome on all
roads.
- no permits needed to use
the trails
- campfires and campstoves
require a
California Campfire Permit**.
Campfires may be prohibited when high fire danger.
* we made written
inquiry as to whether bicycles are welcome on the other trails
(Heart Lake, Glassburner, Blue Lake, Spencer Meadow, and Rice
Creek) but Lassen National Forest ignored our inquiry.
The Lassen National website is mute on this issue as of this
writing (June 2010). We suspect that bicycles may not
be allowed, as these trails are in an area proposed for
wilderness under the Lassen Forest Plan.
**A
campfire permit is required to use a gas stove or make a
campfire outside a developed campground. They are free.
They are good for a calendar year. You may obtain one from
any US Forest Service, CalFire, or US Bureau of Land Management
office.
