This is a big popular campground
stretched along vigorous Hat Creek. Hat Creek
Campground is in more open forest than is Cave Campground
just down the road, so it is rather warm in mid summer.
But more of the sites are away from Highway 89, so Hat Creek
Campground is more removed from highway noise.
There is a mix of flush and pit
toilets. Piped water, and 75 campsites.
Warm summer days and cool Hat
Creek make for a desirable camping experience. There
is an interesting, but sunny and hot, interpretive trail to
some thousands-of-years ago spatter cones in the Hat Creek
lava flow, just across the highway from the campground
entrance.
