Let's be honest, this could be a hard, boring hike ... except for the tremendous view along the crater rim at top.

Only two local summit trails are higher (Lassen Peak & Brokeoff Mountain).  Only two hikes have more elevation gain (Brokeoff Mountain & Jakey Lake loop).

This is a hike for disciplined, dedicated hikers.  Achieving the summit is its own reward. 

There is a pleasant campsite sheltered in the gnarled pines on top.
